Publius Vergilius Maro

Introduction

figure 1: Bust of Virgil

Dear Reader,

I hope you come to this page looking for excitement and inspiration, as these are the traits that the talented Publius Vergilius Maro, also known as Virgil, represent.

I am biographer Gaius Seutonius Tranquillus, and I have dedicated my life to chronicling the lives of many powerful and important fellow Romans. I have studied the lives of Julius Ceaesar, Domitan, and now the great Publius Vergilius Maro. From a small life in the countryside, to a star in the big city of Rome, Virgil demonstrates patriotic traits that adhere to his love for Italy. He writes three major works over his life, the Eclogues, the Georgics, and finally his most famous The Aeneid.

Virgil's extensive and impressive works will shock you, as they did to many Romans in 30 BCE. In this short biography, you will only get a small glimpse into his magic without the full weight and understanding of his impact, but it will still manage to amaze you.

Farewell, Dear Reader, enjoy the journey.
