Archimedes of Syracuse

Introduction

Welcome! It is my pleasure to welcome you into the wonderful tale of Archimedes of Syracuse. In case you are out of tune and haven't hear, Archimedes is the greatest mathematician of all time.

I am Maggie Rickert, a certified ancient Greek biographer. I have had the honor of telling many stories about many of the wonderful, and not so wonderful, people that come from Greek culture. Today I have the great honor of writing about the man who single handedly changed the image of mathematics. However, mathematics is not the only thing Archimedes was superior at (are we surprised?). He was an engineer, a problem solver, an astrologist, and just overall the best person ever.

With the being said, in the following pages I am pleased to discuss some of the most crucial points in our history for the development of math, science, astrology, and engineering, all due to the works of Archimedes. Which I know, some of you probably despise Archimedes when you have to sit through calculus class but think about how many things math has brought you (you probably cannot think of very many things, math is hard, but I promise it's a lot). Nonetheless, Archimedes is still, to this day, the greatest mathematician of all time, and the following pages are highlights of all the amazing work he was able to accomplish. So, enjoy!!
